This website discusses domaining and the prediction of valuable domain names as well as discussing domain development opportunities.

Artificial or engineered food

by Barry on September 24, 2007

With our increase in population and concern about the environment, artificial or engineered food is the focus of a lot of research. Tonight I went to explore this area to see how it is shaping up and what predictive domaining names I could turn up.

Some meat researchers are looking at animal stem cells to grow sheets of muscle cells that could supply ground meat. ArtificialMeat.com might be interesting for a product or a debate about such a product. This one is already taken but ArtificialMeats.com is available

Another term used for these in vitro grown tissues is cultured meant. CulturedMeat.comis already registered as are some other tlds as is MeatSubstitute.com.

This technology is being held back by the expense of the culture media but it is likely that will be solved. It’s likely that this product will enter the market for ground and processed meats in the next few years.

What other needs would there be for cultured meat? How about fish? Aquaculture pollutes and escapees can compete with wild fish. What if we could culture fish muscle stem cells to create a food product free from mercury and doesn’t deplete fish stocks? What domain names might there be to cash into such a product?

Even the ARMY FOREIGN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER CHARLOTTESVILLE VA was interested producing a document back in 1973 called Method of Preparing Artificial Food Products.

A patent was filed by a company to provide an edible artificial skin encased food product which resists sticking to a grill or broiler upon cooking back in 1995.

All this took me to an interesting report called Nanotechnology in Agriculture and Food Production. This report talks about agrifood nanotechnology. Prompt any domain names? They predict that in the food industry alone nanotechnology will be incorporated into $20 billion worth of consumer products by 2010. NanotechFood.com is already taken.

What if we take the flip-side? We know with genetically engineered food that there was a big backlash which made consumers look for labeling that showed which foods were GM-free or organic. Will nano-free or no-nano be the marketing slogan for consumers in the future? Someone is thinking along these lines. NoNano.com, NanoFree.com and NanoSafety.com are already taken but perhaps you can think of an appropriate slogan domain name.

This topic is likely to become heated and attract a lot of attention. If you are a website developer, now might be time to start a website so when this topic reaches its peak, you will be seen as an authority.
