We know environmental issues are huge these days. We see it in the papers everyday. Has the chance to get hold of any environmental related domain names slipped away? I don’t think so. Lets have a look around.
Carbon Emissions
My first stop was a press release from U.C. Berkeley on the rate of growth of carbon emissions. Skimming through looking for key words yielded things like
- carbon cycle
- carbon footprint
- co2 footprint
- global footprint
- global carbon
- carbon chemistry
- carbon diet
A search of the list in moniker.com’s multiple domain search turned up some available domains
- CARBONSOURCES.CO.UK
- CO2CYCLE.COM
- GLOBALCARBON.CO.UK
- CARBONCHEMISTRY.CO.UK
A search for carbon footprint on Google labs trends shows you how popular this topic is becoming.
Methane Footprint
Did you notice the phrase “Methane and sulfate cycles must be included”? It reminded me that carbon dioxide is not the only greenhouse gas i.e. a gas that contributes to global warming. Yet things like methane footprint is completely overwhelmed by carbon footprint. It does not have enough search volume on google trends to be measured. Yet if you check the U.S. EPA website, methane is “over 20 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 100-year period and is emitted from a variety of natural and human-influenced sources”
While MethaneFootPrint.com is taken, there are some other tlds available if this is something you want to base a website on. On the other hand, MethaneCycle.com is available. Will methane catch the public eye? If it does, these may be good value domains.
What other gases are important in global warming?
“Due to its long atmospheric lifetime (approximately 120 years) and heat trapping effects —about 310 times more powerful than carbon dioxide on a per molecule basis — N2O is an important greenhouse gas” U.S. EPA.
Nitrous oxide will be more difficult for type in domains. For websites though, you should be able to find names with the keywords.
Global warming potential
The EPA also talks about GWP (global warming potential) of various gases. This is not a term I have heard much of and so this is not one I would recommend for names. However I did find that GlobalWarmingGases.com was available. OK, its long but feels ok because it reads normally and sounds like a normal phrase. The only thing is the two “g”s together; the “g” from warming and the “g” from gases” but it doesn’t bother me. So I registered this one.
See more on climate change at the U.S. EPA and see what you can find.
