Most universities have a technology transfer office often known as tech transfer. This is where companies can search for technologies they might like to license from the university.
This is the research that the university thinks is most applied and could become a major technology breakthrough. For predictive domainers, this can be a good hunting ground.
I went to the University of Michigan Technology Transfer Office and searched through their Life Science – Clinical Applications section. Browsing through these I came up with a list of possible domain names:
- ItchySkin.com
- NewMarkers.com
- SkinIrritation.com
- BrainTreatment.com
- FibroticDisease.com
- CancerMarker.com
- BloodMarkers.com
- SerumMarkers.com
- NovelMarkers.com
Of these, the last three were available. I picked up BloodMarkers.com and SerumMarkers.com for myself. Diagnostics are becoming tied to treatments and blood/serum markers are some of the most common tests. With the public incorporating more scientific and medical terms into every day language and with people searching the web for medical information, I think these names have a future.
The nice thing about searching tech transfer information is that there is less information overload than with searching patents. It still requires good knowledge of the area you are searching to know what is likely to be taken up by industry.
There are as many tech technology offices as there are colleges and institutes and even governments. So there is plenty of fertile ground to go searching for potential future domain names.
