Strong surge in mobile use predicted

by Barry on December 17, 2008

“According to IBM more than 50 per cent of consumers would substitute their PC based internet connection for their mobile.” “According to Nielsen Mobile, the 13-17 age group in the US sends around 1800 SMS per month, that is 60 SMS per day.” In a very upbeat prediction for 2009 UTalkMarketing.com is anticipating a big upswing in mobile browsing and marketing.

I would point out that this is not an endorsement of .mobi but rather mobile directed websites or websites with both regular and mobile content presentations. I like the idea of location based ads. It makes a lot of sense and I think there could be a lot of clickthroughs especially when someone is traveling away from home.

I am probably not as upbeat for the mobile market over the short term because I think the hardware, speed of access and cost structure are still barriers to growth. In the long term, I think mobile will be a major mode of access to the Internet.

Identifying the generic names of future personalized services is difficult. Very often generic terms in english do not translate well so I understand that it must be very difficult in french. Sometimes longer names are used to translate words. For example, pomme de terre (potato) is literally apple of the ground.
I wish you good luck finding the right words in french.
