Twitter, Stephen Fry and a lift

by Barry on February 3, 2009

Stephen Fry, a British comedian, has got stuck in a lift (elevator) in England around 6pm EST (11pm English time) today Feb 3rd. A big fan of Twitter, he is now the third most popular person on Twitter after President Obama and CNN newsfeed.

He announces his predicament with a message saying “Ok. This is now mad. I am stuck in a lift on the 26th floor of Centre Point. Hell’s teeth. We could be here for hours. Arse, poo and widdle” which anyone following him on twitter receives in real time.

The power of twitter was also shown recently when a plane landed in the Hudson River right beside Manhattan and a photo of the plane was sent to twitter long before the media got wind of the story.

Back to Stephen. Most of us remember him from the work he did with Hugh Laurie, now the star of House, the American series about an eccentric brilliant doctor. So after finding out that he would be stuck on the elevator for a while “Engineers on their way in 20 minutes apparently.”, Stephen entertains everyone by sending a photo of him and others on the lift. Stephen is the gentleman with the red scarf.

A couple of minutes later, another tweet from Stephen: “No shit, Sherlock ….” which had the following photo attached

The power of twitter to bring you real life events is only going to create more and more impact.

Stephen continues his tweets:

Your brilliant comments are keeping us all (hysterically) cheerful. Last a heard engineers still on their way

#frylift This is getting boring. Morale still high. Hopes of early night dashed.

#frylift We’re free! Nice men from Thyssen freed us. Paramount Club had champagne for us at the bottom. I’m allergic, but nice thought x

Stephen Fry was liberated about 30 minutes after he got stuck.

I suggest you get on twitter now and start making connections both for fun and for business. Twitter user names are going fast so do not miss out on generic or brand name you want to use. Feel free to follow me when you sign up and I will follow you back.

Nice post, Twitter is a very powerful tool. I personally love it, I get to interact a lot with my readers and people I would have never met.
