[...] During difficult financial times, taking a hard look at your portfolio is a prudent thing to do. What can you do to recession-proof your portfolio? I already touched on strategies that are recession proof such as targeting the wealthy using premiumization. [...]

I need to make one of those conferences. My bread and butter job though requires me to travel at times and go to conferences and so far, I haven't made a domaining one. Maybe this time.

Like the domains you picked. Never did a legal one but have done insurance ones which have paid out nicely. I like the geolocalized ones for competitive markets.

My brother is now coming in with me on developing content in his areas of expertise so I am expanding my net somewhat.

Have a good holiday weekend

"invest in what you know"

Spot on. Probably the reason so many lose so much when it comes to speculative domaining is that they don't start with what they know . . or maybe, actually, they don't know much of anything. :p

I'm still in the trenches, farking around here and there "with what I know domaining" (at least a little of "know"). Some examples of recent "predictive domaining":

ArizonaHomeHealthcare.com (Aging population)
NCTownhouses.com (Boomers downsizing houses to . . )
LackOfAttention.com (Doh! Somewhat defines a generation according to my 20 y/o daughter)
PhiladelphiaCriminalDefense.com (Not much of a prediction. Just gotta grab a good one when you can. ;)

I look forward to drinking that beer, or two or three, with you. I'll be at PubCon Vegas. ;)

Pure:
Good idea. I hadn't thought about that angle. A future Michael Moore type documentary perhaps?

Webwork:
Hey great to see you. I enjoy it and yes, I make money from it. I think the biggest lesson I have learned has been to invest in what you know. Thanks for pushing me in the right direction. Still owe you that beer.

Illderly.com with it's negative connotation could be used for a project critical of the health care system. It would make a great name for a documentary.

Thanks Caroline. Funny you mention Ireland as I am going there this Saturday for 2 weeks.

I think what you have also shown in your comment is that there can be some nice free PR available in "doing the right thing" with such domains.

You may be interested to hear that dotMobi, the Irish-based Registry for the .mobi TLD, recently awarded the Premium Name autism.mobi to the Autism Research Institute in San Diego.

The ARI has designed a mobile site which includes advice for parents, treatment tips and answers to frequently asked questions around autism. One especially valuable feature is the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist which is designed to evaluate cognitive, communication, sensory and social skills of individuals on the autism spectrum.

Autism.mobi is an excellent example of a site that has been created with the needs of a particular community in mind, taking into consideration the fact that more and more people are going mobile. The site is being promoted across various mediums and the ARI plans to add some additional features over time.

dotMobi was delighted to partner with the ARI and to see the domain name being actively used in such a way.

Agree completely with you, Kelly. The only catch may be that the tests are outrunning the treatments and that's creating dilemmas for patients. Also genetic markers may only give statistical odds of having the disease actually occur during the patient's lifetime e.g BRCA in breast cancer. Some women have insisted on double mastecomies to prevent the possibility of having breast cancer later in life after a positive BRCA test.
Genetic counseling is critical to help patients make sense of the information being given to them. Another hot area for domaining perhaps.
